A visit to the award-winning Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre is a must. Within
the Centre, explore Goat Castle with its murder hole, bartizan, garderobe and
machicolation. Marvel at the panoramic views from the battlements. View
models of Medieval Dalkey, the Atmospheric and Funicular railways and the
much-loved trams. Explore the folklore, customs and literary history of Dalkey.
Experience the tranquility of the 10th Century St. Begnet’s Church and
Graveyard. See the Exhibition of James Joyce’s Dalkey connections: Chapter
Two of ‘Ulysses’ is set in Dalkey. Living History Re-Enactments take place on
selected days. Literary Walks to the settings in the work of local writers, such
as Hugh Leonard, James Joyce and Flann O’Brien, may be booked in advance
(minimum number required). Historical Walks begin from the Heritage Centre
on selected days. Hear the history of the castle, the island, the ancient port and
the town (minimum number of 8 required).
