Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane
.................................................................................................................................................
Located in Dublins city centre, the Hugh Lane Gallery houses one
of Irelands foremost
collections of modern and contemporary art. The original collection, donated
by the Gallerys
founder Sir Hugh Lane, has grown to almost 2000 artworks, ranging from
the Impressionist
masterpieces of Manet, Monet, Renoir and Degas to works by leading national
and
international contemporary artists.
The most spectacular recent acquisition is Francis Bacons 7 Reece
Mews studio, together
with its entire contents numbering over 7,000 items including drawings,
slashed canvases,
books and correspondence. The studio is supported by an Audio Visual room
showing Melvyn
Braggs celebrated interview with Francis Bacon, an Exhibition Gallery
with some of the
artists unfinished paintings and a Micro Gallery where the visitor
has access to an edited
version of the database of the contents of the studio on touch screen
terminals.
Temporary exhibitions ranging in subject are held throughout the year.
The Gallery also holds
regular lectures, concerts, tours and art workshops for children.
