Fota House and Gardens

Fota Island is located 12km east of Cork City on the Northern shore of Cork Harbour. The old estate island of Fota is adjacent to the Great Island of Cobh and renowned for its magnificent Regency style House, Gardens and world famous Arboretum. The island also encompasses to a five star Holiday Resort and a Wildlife Park. Fota House was home to the Smith Barry family, of Norman descent, until 1975. The present house, with over 70 rooms, was designed by the famous Morrison Architects in the 1820’s and the classical style includes gilt, marble work, superb painted ceilings and plaster detail. ‘Fod te’, meaning warm soil, aptly describes the Arboretum and Gardens, which contain the finest collections of rare and tender trees and shrubs grown outdoors in Europe. The story of Fota is told on audio screens throughout the house and visitors can also enjoy authentic country house fare in the traditional tearoom. This prestigious venue is also available for corporat e and event hire. Fota House can cater for all business requirements, receptions and select exhibitions.
