Kilmallock Walled Town

Kilmallock was one of the most important towns in Munster during the 13th and 14th centurieswhen town walls, castles, gatehouses and magnificent churches were built; so well built in fact that many still remain for you to visit. Take is an art exhibition, play, film or show at Friars' Gate Theatre which is also home to Ballyhoura Heritage Information Centre a must see for the Heritage Enthusiast. Visit Kilmallock Museum, which reflects local life in medieval times. Rmable around the medieval town at your leisure or enjoy the guided walking tour that departs from Kilmallock Museum ar 12 noon daily. Kilmallock celebrates its medieval heritage each August with an action packed medieval festival featuring battle re-enactment, medieval fun, markets and concerts.

BIRD WATCHING: There are many areas of natural beauty in close proximity to Kilmallock which are ideal for bird watching. Full details are available on the digital information kiosk at the Ballyhoura Heritage Information Centre.

CYCLING: Ireland's first mountain bike park is located outside Kilfinane only 5 miles from Kilmallock and in the Heart of Ballyhoura Country.

GARDENS: Riverside park is a linear park of three acres beside Lubagh River, giving magnificent views of the most notable historical buildings in the town. It is ideal picnic location or just a pleasant place to relax.

GOLF: Charleville golf clubs is 5 miles from Kilmallock

GUIDED TOURS: Guided tours are available daily in English or by appoinment in Irish. Guided tours depart from Kilmallock Museum daily at 12.00 noon. The Tour visits the main historic sites in the town. Tours can be arranged at other times by appoinment.

MOUNTAIN CLIMBING (INDOORS): Kilfinane Outdoor Education Centre which is 5 miles away boasts an indoor climbing wall whilst also providing a wide range of outdoor activities including orienteering & rock climbing.

OTHER ATTRACTIONS: Three signed heritage driving routes Sli Finn, Golden Vale and Ballyhoura can be followed to discover the rich heritage of the area. Kilmallock museum is open daily from 11.00-15.00

WALKING: There are a number of marked ways in the area
