Adare Heritage is in the heart of Ireland's most picturesque village Adare, Co. Limerick. The Historical Exhibition in the Centre informs the visitor about the area's unique history from the arrival of the Anglo-Normans in 1190 to the present day. The story is told through realistic model enactments, where you have the option to view a number of audio-visuals depicting the history of the area. Tours of the Desmond Castle in Adare are available from the 1st June to the 31st September. The Castle is one of the biggest Anglo-Norman fortresses in Ireland and is a well preserved ruin. On the guided tour you will learn about the history and architecture of the Castle and about everyday life in a medieval fortress. The guided tour of the Castle leaves from Adare Heritage reception and a combination of the Historical Exhibition and Desmond Castle tour is available. Adare Heritage also houses a Tourism Information Office, the Dovecote Restaurant, Black Abbey Crafts, Adare Woollen Mills and Curran's Heraldry.
