The Athenry Heritage Centre is the ideal starting place to discover the rich medieval history of Athenry, the best perserved medieval town in Ireland. History comes alive through interactive exhibits, dressing up a medieval costume and experience the thrill of have a go archery. All visitors recieve a personal tour of the centre which includes storyboard and audio-visual presenatations. The centre is also home to the towns original Mace & Seal, the oldest of their kind in Ireland. The exhibits within the centre include armour and weaponry, the models of Athenry as a walled town, the market square and the medieval dungeon. Visitors can enjoy additional attractions which include the wooden maze, the herb garden and the picnic area. The heritage Centre also provides audio hire and maps for the award winning architectural walking tour of Athenry which includes Athenry Castle, the North Gate and the Dominican Abbey. The Athenry Heritage Centre provides its visitors with an opportunity to experience history and learn more about ‘The Fields of Athenry’.

The award-winning heritage centre provides a visitor experience which is both fun and educational. The history presentation will appeal to Primary and Secondary students through interactive exhibits which include armour, the market square and the medieval dungeon. The models of Athenry demonstrate the historical significance of the town with audio and storyboard presentations. Students become part of history by dressing up in medieval costume which enhances their educational visit and they discover new skills with have-a-go archery. Our tour guides present the history of Athenry which will engage and thrill the students and introduce them to the best preserved medieval town in Ireland.

Conference & Incentive

The Centre provides a unqiue visitor experience through interactive exhibits which include armour, weapons and the medieval dungeon. The centre is also the home to the towns original Mace & Seal, the oldest of their kind in Ireland. Visitor's can become part of history by dressing up in medieval costume and learning new skills with have a go archery. The centre provides exhibits  that younger children can play with and face-painting is provided too. The grounds of the centre contain a wooden maze, a gerb garden and a picnic area. Guided tours are provided to all visitors along with a map of the architectural features of the town.

 

Athenry Heritage Town

Athenry Heritage Town is one of the best preserved walled towns in Ireland. Within these ancient walls lies the restored Athenry Castle, the heritage centre, the north gate and the 13th century Dominican Abbey. Visitors can discover these features with the award winning architectural walking tour of Athenry. The visitor can experience a town which has remained the same for over 500 years. Athenry has great transport links which includes the M6, the Dublin-Galway and Ennis-Galway rail links. The town also have a regular bus service to Galway.
