Experience Dalkey Castle’s Living History Live Performance with characters from Dalkey’s medieval past! The Barber Surgeon will offer a quick tooth extraction, chilling amputation or worse! The Archer will try out his long bow and lead you to the battlements. Beware of the Murder Hole and the flushing of the Garderobe! The Medieval Cook prepares a meal of baked hedgehog or dressed swan. Actors from Delig Inis Theatre Company brings Dalkey’s medieval history vividly to life with live performance every half hour from 10.00 on weekdays and 11.30 on weekends. Walk and talk - an experienced guide reveals the stories behind Dalkey streetscape and ancient history. Guided Historical Walks (May 1st - Aug 31st) leave from Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre and can be pre-booked by arrangement. Bloomsday: See the exhibition of James Joyce’s Dalkey connections, Chapter Two of ‘Ulysses' is set in Dalkey. Come to our Bloomsday Festival on 16th June 2010.

Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre can provide entertainment for your special guests outside of normal working hours. Delig Inis Theatre Company will bring local history to life with characters from medieval times in the fourteenth century Town House, Goat Castle. Opening Times: May 1s t - August 31st: 10.00 -18.00 everyday; Closed Tuesdays.
September 1st - April 30th: Weekdays 9.30 -17.00; Weekends/Public Holidays 11.00 -17.00; Closed Tuesdays.

Admission: €6 Adult, €5 Concession, €4 Child, €16 Family. Living History performance included in Admission price. Group booking is necessary.

Facilities: Dalkey is on the Dart Rail line: 30 minutes south from Dublin city. The number 8 bus will also get you there. Dalkey has a friendly village atmosphere on the coast with bars, bistros, restaurants & Art Galleries to complement your city experience.

The Tudor's are back

May 1st - August 31st: 10.00-18.00 everyday; Closed Tuesdays

Barber Surgeon: It was the infamous Henry who combined the trades of Barber and Surgeon in 1540. In the Living History presentation The Tudor Barber Surgeon of Dalkey follows suit, with gruesome and often hilarious consequences. The Tudor Archer defends the loyal Castle at Dalkey with his longbow. Hear all the terms of archery such as: ‘keep it under your hat’, ‘another string to your bow’, and of course the origins of the infamous V sign! The Medieval Cook prepares a meal of Tudor delights.The Ghost of St begnet’s Graveyard alights in Tudor Ireland and a mystery unfolds.

There is a Living History Live Performance every half hour daily (except Tuesdays). Larger groups can book for one hour. Please note: numbers on each tour are limited. Check availability before arrival as tours can be fully booked in advance by group bookings.

Guided Historical Walks
Guided Historical Walks leave from Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre June 1st –August 31st on Monday, Wednesday & Fridays at 11.00. Advance booking necessary.

Guided Literary Walks to settings in the work of James Joyce, George Bernard Shaw, Flann O'Brien and Hugh Leonard can also be arranged (minimum number required).
