Drogheda, 30 minutes from Dublin and situated at the mouth of the mythical Boyne River, is the gateway to the Boyne Valley with its myriad attractions, including the 5,000 year old burial chambers at Newgrange World Heritage Site.
Learn about the Battle of the Boyne 1690 at magnificent 18th century Oldbridge House. Right in the heart of Drogheda Town, visit the Gothic Revival St. Peter’s RC Church with the preserved head of St. Oliver Plunkett (1625-81) or the Highlanes Gallery, in a former 19th Century Franciscan Church, to see the fine Municipal Art Collection, contemporary art exhibitions and the Sword & Mace, given to the Council by William of Orange after the Battle of the Boyne. Drogheda was a walled town and many remnants remain, including the outstanding St. Laurence Gate. Drogheda has so much more to offer – Millmount, Funtasia Waterpark, Droichead Arts and the TLT Theatre to name but a few.

Highlanes Municipal Art Gallery

Highlanes Gallery, an exciting new state-of-the-art facility aims to be one of Ireland's most important visual art spaces presenting a dynamic and diverse programme of temporary exhibitions and exhibitions drawn from the Drogheda Municipal Art Collection. The Collection dates from the middle of the eighteenth century and is housed at the former Franciscan Friary Church in St. Laurence Street in Drogheda.
Highlanes Gallery promotes and exhibits modern and contemporary art in the north-east region through a dynamic and diverse programme of exhibitions and access initiatives. We welcome visits from individuals and groups (school and otherwise) for formal and informal tours of the Drogheda Municipal Art Collection and the temporary exhibition programme. We programme gallery talks and lectures and practical art workshops focussing on aspects of the exhibition programme many which take place in front of the work. These take place all year round and are developed for children and for adults.
Admission to the Gallery is free, visitors may choose to leave a token donation, suggested at €2.00.
Please check the website www.highlanes.ie for up-to-date programme information and sign up for Highlanes Gallery e-information bulletins.
