Enniskillen Castle, situated beside the River Erne in County Fermanagh, was built almost 600 years ago by Gaelic Maguires. Guarding one of the few passes into Ulster, it was strategically important throughout its history. In the 17th Century it became an English garrison fort and later served as part of a military barracks. This historic site houses 2 museums, Fermanagh County Museum and the Inniskillings Museum. Throughout the year, we provide a changing exhibition programme, covering subjects of local as well as general interest. We hold events, craft demonstrations, storytelling, poetry, and prose reading, commemorations and family entertainment programmes during the Summer, Christmas and Halloween. Our Education programmes meet the needs of those in formal education as well as providing resources for life-long learning. Curriculum linked programmes are available including Life in Early (Prehistoric) Times, Vikings, Medieval Life, The Plantation, World War 2, Life in Recent Past (1930s-1950s) and special Environmental and Art programmes.
