The GPO, in the heart of Dublin’s city centre, was the communications hub of Ireland and the centre of events during the 1916 Easter Rebellion - more commonly referred to as the 1916 Rising.
This new world class attraction brings to life the personal stories of those involved and impacted upon by this event, which was the catalyst for the foundation of the democratic state.

The award-winning GPO Witness History visitor centre is located in the iconic GPO (General Post Office) building on O’Connell Street in Dublin City Centre. This interactive attraction covers the 1916 Easter Rising and the story of modern Irish history, and was recently voted ‘Best Cultural Experience’ (over 100,000 people) at the 2017 Irish Tourism Industry Awards.
A Unique Events Space
GPO Witness History is a unique event space in Dublin city centre. It ideal for private events such as breakfast meetings, bespoke dinners and receptions. Guests can enjoy the exhibition on arrival and customised tours can be organised to enhance the experience.
The venue has two main areas to be used for events. The Witness Gallery is a room on the ground floor with large Georgian windows and state-of-the-art presentation facilities. It is also the ideal place for an arrival evening reception before accessing the exhibition.
The Commemoration Gallery comprises the 1st floor which surrounds the courtyard, and features large patio doors opening up to the space. It is a very open space conducive to small to medium size dinners, with lovely wooden floors and imagery depicting Irish Modern History. The room can accommodate a maximum of five round tables for a gala dinner in a zig zag with a maximum capacity of 50 guests. The room has daylight and it does not require much decoration, the venue supplies candles and it can organise flower arrangements on request.
Incentive Programmes / Facilities
GPO Witness History has its own events manager who will look after your event from inception to delivery. The venue makes a perfect destination for an incentive group looking to have a reception or bespoke dinner with a difference and for groups interested in the history and culture of Ireland.
Once the venue is booked for an event, the client gets the use of the entire space including the courtyard and exhibition.
