VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art & The George Bernard Shaw Theatre is a dynamic multi-disciplinary arts facility presenting the best of local, national and international work in the visual and performing arts and a must-see for all visitors. This unique centre has won numerous awards including the RIAI (Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland) Award 2010 for Best Cultural Building in Ireland.
VISUAL boasts four principal exhibition spaces, and the Main Gallery is recognised as Ireland’s largest and most spectacular space for presenting contemporary art. Since opening in September 2009 the visual arts programme has included leading Irish and International artists.
The George Bernard Shaw Theatre, named after the renowned Irish playwright who had strong Carlow connections, is a 290 seat performance space. Our programme includes both lunchtime and evening events featuring music, theatre, opera, film, comedy and dance from local, national and international performers.

Located in the heart of Carlow town the theatre offers state of the art technology with some of the most modern sound and lighting control systems. Education Programmes
VISUAL & The GB Shaw Theatre run a range of education events for both Primary & Secondary school students. Events include Gallery Tours, Art & Music Workshops, Film Screenings in association with the Irish Film Institute (IFI) linked to school curriculums, as well as theatre productions linked to the curriculum.
