Revolution in Galway, 1913-1923 is an exhibition which looks at the involvement of between 500 and 700 Volunteers alongside 50 members of Cumann na mBan in Galway during Easter Week 1916 - a Rising that would change the course of Irish history. Among the objects displayed is a the Piper's Hat worn by Éamonn Ceannt in Rome in 1908 and a wooden chess piece carved by Liam Mellows while prisoner in 1922. Visitors can also enjoy short silent footage from the period, a touch screen interactive with further information on Galway people, places and memories and a reading of the Proclamation by Galwegians.

Hook Lighthouse is worth visiting at any time of year but these special Halloween tours are only for those who like the ghoulish and the terrifying. Venture into darkness as you ascend the 115 steps of Lighthouse tower for a nighttime view of the graveyard of 1,000 ships, explore the original keepers’ quarters and learn of the true terrifying tales behind the Lighthouse and its grounds including the paranormal experiences of previous guests and staff. Atmospheric lighting, hanging spiders and creepy nooks and crannies along the way create an experience which is not for the feint-hearted.

The faint light thrown periodically by the lighthouse beacon adds to the atmosphere of terror, these tours are suitable for brave adults and braver kids but are not for anyone of a nervous disposition.

This Halloween, Birr Castle are celebrating the life of the 3rd Earl of Rosse who passed away on Halloween night 150 years ago. They will take you through a soul-shivering story starting in the dark of the courtyard, through the anam of the Keep Gate and on into the Castle. The story will be animated by an amazing team who will bring to life the story of a nightmare ending for an astronomical genius. The experience lasts 45 minutes and tickets are priced €12.50 per child (up to 16 yrs) and €8 per accompanying adult.  This event is not recommended for children 8 years of age (it is Halloween scary!). Event starts 17:30 each evening with allocated time slots up to 20:30 each night. Pre-booking is essential.
