Limerick is a fine Georgian city and ideal for exploring the Shannon region. Today’s suggested route takes in the lovely region around Lough Derg, the largest lake on the River Shannon. A full afternoon is worth devoting to Birr Heritage Town, some miles east of Lough Derg. Return to Limerick via Roscrea Heritage Town with St. Cronan’s monastic ruins and restored 13th Century Castle to
