We've been busy during January
The new Heritage Island website (at HeritageIsland.com) is our new face to consumers and travel trade worldwide. We’ve been busy adding content and lots of new features to it throughout January. …and there is lots more to come.
At its heart are the detailed profiles of our member attractions (which you can change or add to as you wish). We have added a new events section which can profile your events; a new tours section prompting ideas to the travel trade and consumer and a new Travel Trade section that will become an increasingly important resource to the Travel Trade, Travel Media and other influencers of business into Ireland as we build content.
You should spend some time to review the website, noting that the content will be added to daily. We’ll keep you up-to-date on the website as it evolves.

We’ve launched a new Ticket Shop on our Heritage Island website. It is powered by our partner company TopAttractionsIreland.com and is an easy way to win new business. Visitors like it because it’s simple to book tickets instantly online to participating member attractions, particularly as they can buy tickets to more than one attraction at the same time. The tickets typically have long validity, which means visitors can buy in advance of travelling to Ireland (committing early to visit you!). They also make a great ‘Gift of Ireland'.
Trial it: If you are not already selling tickets in ‘The Ticket Shop’, you can trial it with, for example, 50 tickets. All you need to do is let us know and Top Attractions Ireland will send you more details. There are no costs involved, only commissions on ticket sales. Once an agreement to sell your tickets is in place with Top Attractions Ireland, you can be online within hours. You can also feature on Top Attractions Ireland's own website too... at no extra cost...
AND no more profile forms to fill, as they can draw from your Heritage Island profile, with your agreement.
We’ve been adding your 2016 events to the Events Calendar on our website – but know lots more of you have yet to submit them. You can see them and how they present here and how easily the travel trade and consumers can find them. They can search by month, by county/city or by seasonal theme. Themes for 2016 are St. Patrick’s Week; 1916-2016 Commemorations; Easter 2016; Summer 2016; Halloween 2016, Christmas 2016 and ‘Year 2017’.
We cannot feature ALL your events, but can feature your TOP PRIORITY events. You can submit any major Events – against THESE 2 Criteria:
- You can email a maximum of 3 TOP PRIORITY events for 2016. These can be separate to any Christmas events (we will seek the latter separately, later in 2016). You will only benefit if you send us details well in advance of the event, as we target overseas visitors.
- The events must be your PRIORITY events. As you can only send 3 events, if you have lots of events in summer, you could group and highlight them as your 'summer season' events.
Send in your top 3 Events NOW: You don’t need to fill in any forms, you can email your event details to John@Accolades.ie. You just need to name the event, the dates, its location, a concise description (60 words or less) and the website address where trade/consumers can get more information. If there is a deep-link to the precise web page it features on, please include the link. We also need a photo to represent each event. It should be either landscape or square in shape.
The new Heritage Island Touring Guide (DL version), in which you feature, has now moved into distribution and is already on display in many key tourist locations and accommodations nationwide. The key locations include the access gateways at Dublin, Shannon, Cork and Knock Airports.
An initial supply of 16,000 brochures have been ordered by Fáilte Ireland and they have also been distributed to Tourism Ireland worldwide for their promotional use.
We will continue to distribute more and more brochures throughout the year as the season builds, peaking for high season.
We have also made the DL brochures available for free order via enjoyIreland.info. This is an important resource for all tourist offices throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, enabling them to order and re-order tourism brochures.
Our new 56-page A5 tour guide, in which you feature, has also moved into distribution. We’ve already distributed it to Tourism Ireland Offices overseas. It’s also now available to purchase online via our website and every day we are fulfilling individual orders to consumers throughout the North America (predominantly), Canada, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Australia, Spain and the UK.
Tour Operators: Several major Irish Incoming Tour Operators (ITOA), along with North American and European based tour operators have ordered quantities of our guides, some for their own reference but most order to make them available to their F.I.T. clients.
As in previous years, we continue to respond to requests from tour operators for an electronic pdf version of our discount pass, which also highlights the list of attractions and their special offers or discounts.
Heritage Island had a stand Dublin Holiday World Show at the RDS from January 22 – 24. 21 of our members attended at different times during the weekend. Over 4,000 brochures were distributed at the show. In addition to the opportunity it provided to reach Irish consumers, it also provide a useful platform to network and meet tour operators, media and influencers of business. The show also saw the first use of our new Heritage Island branded exhibition stand backdrop which we will also use at future shows.
We have produced a new ‘Heritage Island Member 2016’ sticker which we will shortly issue to you. It’s a 2-sided sticker produced using a special glue which does not leave a residue if removed or relocated. We strongly recommend that you display it prominently at your entrance / admissions area. It identifies to visitors that your attraction is a proud member of Heritage Island – Ireland’s Premier Attractions.
We have prepared and will shortly issue a briefing document for you to share your staff, particularly your admissions team. This will brief them on our publications, offers and vouchers.
