Heritage Island's 15 New Member Attractions and Heritage Towns for 2016

We are really pleased at Heritage Island to welcome 14 new members for 2016. These include Airfield Estate (Dublin); Dunguaire Castle (Galway); Epic Ireland (Dublin); GAA Museum & Croke Park Stadium Tours (Dublin); GPO Witness History (Dublin); Hook Lighthouse (Wexford); Irish Rock n’ Roll Museum (Dublin); Irish Whiskey Museum (Dublin); Mount Congreve Gardens (Waterford); Rathfarnham Castle (Dublin); The Shed Distillery (Leitrim); plus the heritage towns of New Ross, Downpatrick and Armagh City. You will find profiles of each of these on this website.

 

GPO Witness History – New Dublin City Centre Attraction opening March 2016

GPO Witness History is a brand new immersive exhibition opening in March 2016 in the iconic GPO building, O’Connell Street, Dublin. The GPO was the communications hub of Ireland and the centre of events during the 1916 Easter Rebellion - more commonly referred to as the 1916 Rising.  This new world-class attraction brings to life the personal stories of those involved and impacted upon by this event, which was the catalyst for the foundation of the democratic state. Epic Ireland – the journey of a people – New Dublin City Attraction opening May 2016

Epic Ireland is a dramatic 21st Century visitor experience telling the authentic and epic story of 10 million journeys and the roots of 70 million people, told with memorable style and passion. It is centrally located in the beautiful vaults of the 1820 CHQ building on Custom House Quay, Dublin. Through 21 remarkable galleries, using cutting-edge interactive technologies, visitors explore the many tales of migration, the forces that have driven it, and the impact that it has had on the world. Airfield Estate – Dublin’s amazing 38 acre farm and visitor attraction has been transformed with €12 million investment

Airfield Estate, Dublin’s only 38 acre working farm and visitor attraction includes farmyard activities, an interactive exhibition and tours of the Overend family home; an ornamental walled garden and greenhouse; an interactive display garage with vintage cars including a 1927 Rolls Royce; woodland walks, a children’s play area and a restaurant. Irish Whiskey Museum, Grafton Street, Dublin (opposite Trinity College) - The first Irish Whiskey Museum in the world.

Independent from the drinks industry, the Irish Whiskey Museum tells the story of Irish whiskey through the ages. Tour guides are engaging and knowledgeable about all aspects of Irish whiskey and its history and they know a few interesting anecdotes to keep visitors entertained during a one-hour tour. Rathfarnham Castle, Dublin - opened to visitors in 2015
Rathfarnham Castle is a 16th century fortified house which was remodelled in the late 18th century and declared a National Monument in 1986. The castle, with its four flanker towers, is an excellent example of the fortified house in Ireland. See it here.

 

The Shed Distillery of P.J. Rigney, Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim - Connacht’s
first working distillery in over 101 years.

Situated in the rugged and wild surrounds of the small village of Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim, The Shed marks a return to traditional distillation using medieval copper stills and is the first multi-purpose distillery of its kind in Ireland. Check it out here.
