Curraghmore House is one of the most historic properties in Ireland, having first been built in Portlaw over 800 years ago by the  La Poer family, Descendants of whom still live there today.

Curraghmore House is now inhabited by Lord and Lady Waterford, the house remains in private hands but being as special as it is, the family have opened it up to the public for tours.

The castle tower, first built by the La Poers in the 12th century, has since been encased by a Victorian mansion, a building you will not see the like of anywhere else.

Hidden in the shrubbery not far from the main house is the unique shellhouse. Catherine Countess of Tyrone made this marvel with her own hands in 1754. The walls are adorned with lucent seashells from all around the world. This shellhouse is one of a kind and should be on top of everybody's list of places to visit in Ireland.

Highlights include:
  • Curraghmore has been described as a LIVING MUSEUM
  • One of Irelands hidden gems
  • A beautiful family home
  • Irelands largest private estate
  • A unique Shellhouse
  • An abundance of walks and wildlife
