Visit one of Ireland’s most enduring and well-loved visitor attractions in the heart of the Connemara countryside.
Originally a Castle, built as a romantic gift for the beautiful Margaret Henry in 1867, Kylemore Abbey is steeped in tales of romance, tragedy, spirituality, and innovation. Home to the Benedictine nuns since 1920, this 1,000 acre estate makes an unforgettable day out. Turn the pages on ‘The Story of Kylemore’ a wonderful new visitor experience 'From Generation to Generation... The Story of Kylemore' in 2020.
Learn about the fascinating lives of the people who have made their home here over the years including the fabulously wealthy Henry family, the Duke and Duchess of Manchester and the Benedictine nuns who ran an international boarding school here until 2010.
Explore beautiful Victorian buildings which include the Abbey, neo-Gothic Church and Mausoleum and of course the 6½ acre Victorian Walled Garden. The Garden is stunningly located overlooking Connemara National Park and is Ireland’s premier Heritage Garden where only Victorian varieties of plants and flowers are grown.
Enjoy extensive woodland and lakeshore walks in the heart of the beautiful Connemara countryside. Home cooking and baking in the Café and Tea House along with a unique shopping experience in the Craft and Design Shop help to complete your perfect day out!
