The busy seaport of Foynes, on the Wild Atlantic Way, was home to Ireland’s first transatlantic airport from 1939 to 1947.

It was here that the first transatlantic passenger flights from the United States arrived, and it was also in Foynes that Chef Joe Sheridan invented the world’s most famous drink ‘Irish Coffee’, way back in in 1943.

The Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum, situated in the original airport terminal building, recalls all this past with wonderful displays, original film and lots of rare memorabilia. It also features the world’s only full-size replica of a Boeing B314 Flying Boat.

Other Foynes attractions include a recently upgraded forest park with walking trails to the Estuary shore, viewpoints to watch ships passing, the prize winning Boyce Gardens, award-winning Knockpatrick Gardens, and Combat Zone Paintballing Adventure.

Highlights include:
  • The Foynes Flying Boat Museum & Maritime Museum
  • Located on the Wild Atlantic Way
  • Home of the world famous 'Irish Coffee'
  • Prize-winning Boyce Gardens & award-winning Knockpatrick Gardens
  • Forest Park with walking trails and fantastic viewpoints
